PHILANTHROPY

"It is fashionable to look good, but it is more fashionable to do good"

The focus of Fashion for a CAUSE is philanthropy. Every fall semester we partner with charities and CIO's at UVa and in the larger Charlottesville community in order to give back both physically and financially. All the proceeds accrued for the show are donated to a charity/organization of our choice. This year we are proud to be working with The Haven as well as the Ronald Mcdonald House of Charlottesville and City Schoolyard Garden

The Haven

This year, Fashion for a Cause's (FFC) primary cause is Charlottesville's own, "The Haven". As homelessness is a problem in Charlottesville, the United States and beyond in which many without a regular private house and shelter are effected, FFC has would like to help make an impact in our local area, through helping "The Haven".

The Haven is a local Charlottesville Day Shelter that serves those who are homeless or who live in extreme poverty. By serving daily meals and providing guests with housing assistance, The Haven helps reduce the number of people on the streets due to homelessness.

This semester Fashion for a Cause has partnered up with The Haven to fill their volunteer needs.

By preparing breakfast at The Haven, staffing the welcome desk and utilizing our special skills we are reaching out into the Charlottesville community and helping those who are dealing with some of the hardest times of their lives.

City Schoolyard Garden

The mission of City Schoolyard Gardens is to promote academic achievement and nutritional wellness through garden based learning. By staffing their 8 gardens, City Schoolyard Gardens serves over 2,800 students in Charlottesville Public Schools.

This semester Fashion for a Cause partnered up with City Schoolyard Garden to help them with their garden workdays, Farm-to-School week and Harvest of the Months. In doing such work Fashion for a Cause is helping one of the most important non-profit organizations in the Charlottesville community.

The goal we have for our community service with City Schoolyard Garden is to promote their nutritional and environmental stewardship programs as it is essential that the youth learn such skills before they transition to adulthood.

Ronald McDonald House of Charlottesville.

The purpose of the Ronald McDonald House of Charlottesville is to house families whose children are going through advanced medical treatments at the UVA hospital system. In addition to the other services they provide, their Meals from the Heart program gives the families the security of knowing that every day they will have at least one warm meal ready for them when they arrive.

This semester Fashion for a Cause partnered up with Ronald McDonald House to provide various meals for the home. By preparing these meals Fashion for a Cause lightens the burden on families who are already in the midst of extremely difficult circumstances

The goal we have for our work with the Ronald McDonald house is to bring a smile to the faces of the families that we prepare meals for. Whether it be through our food or our personalities we seek to be a bright light in a time where stress-free moments may be few and far between.
